THE ST. MARTHA-YAMAHA CONCERT SERIES
SPONSORED BY TOTALBANK PRESENTS

“FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE”

The St. Martha – Yamaha Concert Series, sponsored by TotalBank, kicks off with the first of four concerts on Saturday, January 22, 2005. The first performance, From Russia With Love, will take place at St. Martha’s Church in Miami Shores at 7:30 p.m. Ticket prices are $10. The concert is a duo recital with world-renowned Russian violin virtuoso Yuval Waldman and internationally acclaimed pianist Paul Posnak.

Julie A. S. Williamson, a long time member of the parish, played a large role in bringing this concert series to the church. Responding to a suggestion by pastor Father Federico Capdepon, Williamson approached Dr. Paul Posnak, professor of piano at the University of Miami, about the idea of the concert series.

“Dr. Posnak told me that the parish had to have a concert-grande piano to attract the best artists and then he spent a year searching for the perfect instrument,” said Williamson. “He was finally satisfied when he found a very special conservatory grand – master crafted on the island of Hamematsu - at Yamaha’s showroom in New York City.”

Williamson continued, “It all came together suddenly in a way that was quite surprising. And now we really hope we can develop a true community outreach where everyone is welcome to share some beautiful experiences. This is truly a ‘little church that could’ story.”

Dr. Posnak was not the only helping hand to step forward. Once he found the piano, Yamaha and the Piano Center donated a large portion of the cost, and then St. Martha’s church was able to find sponsorship from TotalBank. William J. Heffernan, CEO of TotalBank and former mayor of Miami Shores, was approached for his dedication to the community.

“Music is a very important part of South Florida’s culture and we support and believe in St. Martha’s mission in bringing world-class musicians to a top-quality setting, offering very reasonably priced concerts for the community. We are truly honored to be part of these concerts,” said Adrienne Arsht, chairman of TotalBank.
