LYUBOV PETROVA
Soprano
Born in Russia, Ms. Petrova was a special participant in The Metropolitan Opera Lindemann Young Artist Development Program during the 2000-2001 season and formally joined the program at the beginning of the 2001-2002 season. She made her Met debut in 2001 season as Zerbinetta in ARIADNE AUF NAXOS.
During the 2002-2003 Metropolitan Opera season, Ms. Petrova has performed Adele in DIE FLEDERMAUS and Blonde in DIE ENTFÜHRUNG AUS DEM SERAIL. Last season, she performed the roles of Nannetta in FALSTAFF, Barbarina in LE NOZZE DI FIGARO, and Animal Soprano and Bat in L'ENFANT ET LES SORTILÈGES.
In October of 2002, Ms. Petrova made her Washington Opera debut in the title role in LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR. During the summer of 2002, Ms. Petrova performed the role of Despina in COSÌ FAN TUTTE at Spoleto Festival USA.
Ms. Petrova performed with the Novaya Opera at Moscow's Municipal Theater beginning in 1995 where her roles included the Queen of the Night in DIE ZAUBERFLÖTE, Violetta in LA TRAVIATA, Walter in LA WALLY, Lyudmila in Glinka's RUSLAN AND LYUDMILA, the title role in Rimsky-Korsakov's SNOW MAIDEN, Marfa in Rimsky-Korsakov's TSAR'S BRIDE, and Xenia in BORIS GODUNOV.
Ms. Petrova has participated in the Irina Arkhipova International Opera Festival in Russia and the Ludwigsburger Schloßfestspiele. She has appeared in concert in Moscow at Placido Domingo's Concert in Red Square in 2001 and numerous times with the Russian National Symphony Orchestra conducted by Michael Pletnev. Ms. Petrova also appeared at the Theater an der Wien in Austria with the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra conducted by Vladimir Fedoseyev.
Among her awards and honors, Ms. Petrova was awarded first prize at both the 1999 International Elena Obratztsova Young Opera Singers Competition and the International Rimsky-Korsakov Competition of Operatic Singers in 1998.
Ms. Pertova is a graduate from the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow.
KEN NODA
Pianist
Ken Noda is Musical Assistant to James Levine on the Artistic Administration of the Metropolitan Opera. He began his work there in l991 after he retired from a full-time performing career as a concert pianist. He studied with Daniel Barenboim and made his London debut in l979 with Barenboim conducting the English Chamber Orchestra. Since then, he has performed as soloist with such orchestras as the Berlin, Vienna, New York, Israel, and Los Angeles Philharmonics; the London, Boston, Chicago, San Francisco, Montreal, and National Symphonies; the Cleveland Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris, and Philharmonia Orchestra of London, under such conductors as Abbado, Barenboim, Chailly, Kubelik, Levine, Mehta, Ozawa, and Previn. He has also collaborated as chamber musician with James Levine (at two pianos), Itzhak Perlman, Pinchas Zukerman, and Nigel Kennedy; and as lieder accompanist to Kathleen Battle, Hildegard Behrens, Maria Ewing, and Jessye Norman. Since l999, he has been a participant every summer at the Marlboro Music Festival.
