This instrumental evening includes classical and popular music. Built around soprano, flute and guitar, works include Brazilian/Portuguese texts including Villa-lobos' haunting aria from Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5 - expressions translated to music. Amorous passions, awe of nature's beauty, celebration of community...all with Portuguese "saudade" characteristics.

In this creative combination of instrumentalists, you will enjoy the music of various classical and popular composers. Courtenay, a highly acclaimed New York soprano, is a favorite of our Symphony audiences both at the Broward Center and for this Serenades Series. She will be joined by Marilyn Maingart, Principal Flute of the Symphony, and Cuban born guitarist Rafael Padrón. Mr. Padrón is a Graduate from the Peabody Conservatory at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD.  He completed his Graduate Performance Diploma on a full scholarship, under the tutelage of world-renowned guitarist Manuel Barrueco. Mr. Padrón is currently the Program Director of Classical Guitar at the Frost School of Music, University of Miami.

Selections include:
Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5 - Villa-Lobos
Granados Elegia Eterna - Villa-Lobos
"Nightclub 1960" (Histoire du Tango) - Astor Piazzolla
and more!
